After handing over the possession of the residence to the owner from the developer, we had visited the place for our site study & survey. The house was quite raw without any finishing’s, but it had some of the very unique character which made it look different from other residence. The residence had good height large spacious rooms, column & beam free spaces, large utilities, kitchen etc. Being an Interior designer we had lot of scope to play with. The windows were large, having a beautiful view & more of daylight was coming in, at that instinct we structured our mind set in order to play with the space planning. Unlike other Mumbai residence where the places are small the limitation of the space planning reduces.
The brief was very clear to us, wherein the owners wanted an interior which is modern where it could relate to the lifestyle which they live in. We knew that we had to do an interior which have-to-have a finest of design.
There were various spaces to work on such as Living room with dining area combine, Pooja room, Master bedroom, Children’s bedroom, Guest bedroom, Kitchen, service area and maid’s room. We had made least volume changes knowing that sufficient spaces were there to work on. To give each space its own character we use various colour scheme & variety of material along with decorative lightings & artifacts. The Living room floor was complete Italian Marble flooring, walls were treated with wooden paneling, and ceiling was complete gypsum. The intent of the design was to make the space brighter & modern. We treated some walls with a whitest colour paneling along with little accent of wooden finish. We have used an off-white sofa fabric making the space very bright & lighter.
There were 3 bedrooms to play with, each bedroom speaking its own design. The master bedroom had a lot of wooden paneling giving the space more warmer feel. The bed had leather headboards with alcoves, the children bedroom is design relating the youth culture by giving whitest & blue colour background element. The Guest bedroom is more subtle in terms of look and feel concept. We created a lot of suspended ceilings with cove lighting specially giving it a look of conceal light.
Toilet has a complete different look from each other. One of the toilets we have made of Zebra Marconi Black marble with crystal white sanitary fixtures giving the toilet ultra modern appearance. The other toilet we have used travertine marble combination which added very earthy modern feeling to it.
The design has been complementary to the lifestyles that exist in the modern family with certain subtleness to the overall feel & decor of the interior.
The challenge is always in such projects are to ensure the project delivered within the time & sense of balance between the modern & subtleness are maintained.
